  • One Night Only–Cheyenne, WY

Cathedral of St. Mary in Cheyenne, Wyoming

I was supposed to be at the Cathedral of St. Mary back in April. Unfortunately, surgery for colon cancer sidelined me in March and I was unable to fulfill the commitment. I am attempting to make up for that now.

This will be my first out-of-state speaking engagement since being diagnosed with cancer back on February 17. I missed all of Lent and the entire Easter season as well. I had to cancel multiple speaking engagements during that time. It feels good to be getting back at it again.

A parishioner from the cathedral sent me a message on LinkedIn saying that the event had been advertised in the bulletin and an announcement was made last weekend as well. He welcomed my return to Cheyenne, but then his real motivation came to light. He went on to say, “I’m only going for the desserts.” Me too, Brian. Me too. (Ha! Ha!)

Seriously, I don’t know who came up with the phrase “Desserts with the Deacon,” but I really wish I would have thought of that years ago. It is catchy. I also realize that I could have been getting tasty treats all these years using that slogan. I’ll chalk that up to another missed opportunity.

Anyway, I am truly excited about being back in Cheyenne. I hope to see folks from all three parishes, and it would be a blessing to see a few folks from Fort Collins make the trip north for this one-night event. It is going to be a powerful evening as we open ourselves to grow in wisdom, grace, and holiness.

  • Mini Mission in Cheyenne (8-17-2026)

Sanctuary of the Cathedral of St. Mary in Cheyenne, Wyoming

During the years that I served as the Director of Pastoral Ministries and Superintendent of Catholic Schools (2009-2018) for the Diocese of Cheyenne, I was also assigned as a deacon to the Cathedral of St. Mary. I look back on those days with great fondness.

I want to let everyone know that I will be coming back to the cathedral for a “mini mission.” It will be one night and one night only. It happens in just two weeks on Monday, August 17, at 6:30 P.M. I will speak for about 75 minutes, and then we will have “DESSERTS WITH THE DEACON.” I’ll load you up with spiritual nourishment, and then we can tackle some tasty delights which may or may not keep me up half the night. Good times!

    Cheyenne, WY 82001

    Monday, August 17, 2026 at 6:30 P.M.

I have a lot of good questions for you to ponder when I am with you. By the end of the evening, I truly want your faith to be on fire.

I will provide you with a few samples right here of what is to come.

    1. Are you a follower of Christ by custom or conviction?
    2. Are you interested in being a saint, or are you committed to being a saint?
    3. What motivates you for worship?

It’s going to be a magnificent evening. I have been praying daily for everyone who will be in attendance. God is going to move powerfully in our midst. I extend an invitation to everyone in Cheyenne as well as northern Colorado. Folks in Fort Collins, it takes less than an hour to drive to Cheyenne. Come on up and experience the hospitality of the cathedral parishioners. You’ll be glad you did.
