The parish church pictured above was my home for forty years. The cemetery will most likely serve as my final resting place.
Looking at our mortality can be a daunting exercise. I have been participating in a book study with a group of people where we have been doing exactly that. We read “Preparation for Death” by St. Alphonsus Liguori. This was the third time I read the book in the last thirty-five years. WOW! It still prompts me to meditate and ponder the four last things: death, judgment, heaven, and hell. Certain quotes remain with me.
“Those who pray will be saved. Those who pray not will be condemned.”
“One who believes in eternity but does not become a saint should be confined to a madhouse.”
The treasures provided in this book are numerous and quite profound. Going through the book with other people was an experience that far exceeded my expectations. What a blessing to study with parishioners who are striving to grow in their walk with the Lord. We wrap up our study this week.
If you have not read the book, I highly encourage you to do so. My copy of the book is very old. Newer versions look different on the cover. However, I am providing the photo of my book to hopefully spur you on to get your own copy. You will not regret it.
